Silk Painting with Scarves, Mandalas and Gemstones

I just love synchronicities and I love how they occur at the least expected moments. Recently I began exploring the world of gemstones starting off with a lovely green semi-precious stone in my collection. It was a mixture of chrysocolla and malachite. Well I went on to create a lovely silk which I now offer in my Etsy shop as made to order. This is it here. I was then sent a few photographs by my gemologer friend Starlene Breiter … Continue reading

Silk Painting: Refilling Gold Liner from the Tubes to the Bottles

We all have our habits and one of mine in silk painting is always to use the little plastic bottles with nibs for drawing my resist lines. I’ve never liked the tubes. It’s just one of those things. But a few days ago I realised I was going to have to order some more gold resist as I have a silk painting workshop coming up and saw that I didn’t have enough for the participants. So I went online and … Continue reading

Silk Painting with Fiona Stolze – Using Premade Cushion Covers

Although I love to paint my cushion covers from scratch by making a silk satin front panel and sewing a dupioni zipped back panel, it is good to be able to use the premade cushion covers in between. Just last week I decided to play with one. One word before I start. There are 3 different types of silk covers available. One is made of pongee and the others of crepe or crepe satin. I only use the satin as … Continue reading

Dyeing in the Sun – Fun with Silks and Colours

In case you hadn’t worked it out – I love colour and I love painting on silk. It’s just something that brings me alive and fills me joy. It feels like a fountain of lightness is just welling up from within and it’s wonderful to just surrender and go with the flow literally. Today I was totally in the flow and was blessed to be able to play in the sunshine, an unusual occurrence. I thought it must be a … Continue reading

Mayan Gold on Silk Inspired by the Da Vinci Code Soundtrack

Over the years I have painted a great number of mandalas on silk and, as you can imagine, I have a huge collection of photographs taken both during the process and afterwards of the completed paintings. And it’s with great joy that I often browse through the photos, picking pictures out here and there to illustrate writings and newsletters. Well the latest trip down memory lane was yesterday when I pulled out my Da Vinci Code soundtrack CD and suddenly … Continue reading

What’s the GAC (Glastonbury Art Collective) up to Now?

It’s been a month since the Glastonbury Art Collective presented its first ever art exhibition in Glastonbury, spearheaded by Jessica Morris and held in the Grail Centre, Chilkwell Street. For those of you who didn’t manage to get down to the venue in person, here is a short video I made of the exhibits by following this link: Glastonbury Art Collective Exhibition. But it’s always really interesting to see what is happening in the aftermath of these events as artists … Continue reading

Inspired by Green Chrysocolla to Paint Beautiful Heart Chakra Silks

A few days ago a lovely friend of mine drew a card and gave me a short reading. Amongst other things a gemstone message came through. I went off to see what I had in my little treasure box of stones and this is the piece that I found. I just had to capture it on camera. It turned out that this was a mixture of chrysocolla and malachite and not the chrysoprase that had been spoken about but I … Continue reading

Creating Silk Mandala Artwork – Painting from the Heart

I just wanted to share this lovely photograph with you of the latest 3 silk mandalas that were painted in one of my silk painting workshops here in Bristol. I couldn’t resist displaying them out in the sunshine in front of the lilac bush before taking them in to steam them and then send them off to their artist owners. The wonderful part of it all is that when they have been steamed, the colours turn really translucent and take … Continue reading
