Silk Mandala Painting – starting to get creative again

It’s amazing how that creative urge just keeps on pushing its way back up to the surface no matter what other things I am doing. And since I don’t have the supplies that I used to, it lets me look at working with what is at hand, despite having grandiose ideas about how things should look. What a great analogy for life and being present to what is. I got hold of some small square canvases and created some silk … Continue reading

A Splash of Colour Therapy – Silk, Dyes and Fun

I spent the last two days working on another couple of commissioned silk scarves and found myself really enjoying working with the vibrant colours. I was just thinking a few days ago how nice it would be to have my two different rainbow scarves side by side, when suddenly I got an order for one of each. Such a beautiful synchronicity. So I set about painting them in tandem, with the two frames set up at the same time, enjoying … Continue reading

Silk Painting and Mandalas in Lincombe Barn, Bristol

Silk painting is such a joy to do and it’s even more joy when others join you in a group. And I had that pleasure at the weekend when 3 other aspiring silk painters met with me to create their own silk mandalas. We were in a venue I haven’t worked in before. Lincombe Barn is the home of the Downend Folkhouse Association, just past Bristol City limits, a few metres into South Gloucestershire. It was such a beautifully warm … Continue reading

Passionate About Silk and Art and Colour

Yesterday evening the setting sun was lighting the back wall in my bedroom up beautifully. I had hung one or two pieces of clothing against the cupboard door and noted how pretty the colours looked together. So I went up to the attic and got my camera down and started to take a few shots. These are some of the latest silks I’ve painted and I noticed what a predominance of pinks and oranges there is in my work at … Continue reading

Mandala Silk Painting Workshops in Bristol

It’s been a while since I last ran a silk painting workshop. And just recently I got that prod again to put out the call and make it happen. I have always taught people within my own home, whether Glastonbury, Malahide or Bristol. But this time I knew it was time to go out and seek a new venue. So imagine my delight when within a very short space of time I had manifested 2 different spaces to hold my … Continue reading

Silk Painting Challenge – Create an Original ‘Mantangle’ on Silk

I love a good challenge and even more, I love to create a challenge and invite others to join in. And that’s exactly what this post is all about. My lovely friend Don Baker shared a link to a fabulous YouTube video today which shows Milliande Demetriou from the Milliande Art Community drawing a design called a Zendala. It was coined from a mix of mandala and zentangle. I’d love you to watch it because this is exactly what our … Continue reading

The mandala pictured here is one of a series of 6 silk pictures currently sold through Silk & Art . Its measurements are 50cm x 50cm x 4cm. A digital photo is taken of my original silk painting and the image is then printed onto satin silk, the same quality I paint my original silk mandalas on. These silk images are then carefully hand-embellished with gold gutta to give them a real touch of authenticity with a look and feel … Continue reading
