We all have our habits and one of mine in silk painting is always to use the little plastic bottles with nibs for drawing my resist lines. I’ve never liked the tubes. It’s just one of those things. But a few days ago I realised I was going to have to order some more gold resist as I have a silk painting workshop coming up and saw that I didn’t have enough for the participants. So I went online and … Continue reading
Over the years I have painted a great number of mandalas on silk and, as you can imagine, I have a huge collection of photographs taken both during the process and afterwards of the completed paintings. And it’s with great joy that I often browse through the photos, picking pictures out here and there to illustrate writings and newsletters. Well the latest trip down memory lane was yesterday when I pulled out my Da Vinci Code soundtrack CD and suddenly … Continue reading
I just wanted to share this lovely photograph with you of the latest 3 silk mandalas that were painted in one of my silk painting workshops here in Bristol. I couldn’t resist displaying them out in the sunshine in front of the lilac bush before taking them in to steam them and then send them off to their artist owners. The wonderful part of it all is that when they have been steamed, the colours turn really translucent and take … Continue reading
It’s been a while since I last ran a silk painting workshop. And just recently I got that prod again to put out the call and make it happen. I have always taught people within my own home, whether Glastonbury, Malahide or Bristol. But this time I knew it was time to go out and seek a new venue. So imagine my delight when within a very short space of time I had manifested 2 different spaces to hold my … Continue reading
Well, not too long ago I decided to have a break from creating my traditional mandalas on silk using gold resist and dyes. I was open to exploring new directions and giving free flow to my creativity. I began to play with soya wax more and bought myself some tjantings and just literally got going. At the same time I was introduced to the world of fluorescent dyes which was a real delight. However, rather than let my active mind … Continue reading
I received my first samples of fluorescent dyes quite a while back from a lovely silk painter colleague of mine, Don Baker, and I must admit that they got put on the shelf with fabulous intentions…. It was only recently when someone shared a really vibrant photo on Facebook that looked luminous that Don suggested I have a go painting something similar with the dyes. That was my challenge which I took immediately. So after buying some distilled water, I … Continue reading
I got a call yesterday to let me know that my mandala window stickers were ready to be picked up. I had agreed to not have them sent to me by courier as I thought it would be a good idea to drive over there and meet the people behind the job, so to speak. I’m really glad I made that decision as I had never been to Portishead before. It’s over on the coast and has a marina. We … Continue reading
Many of you will know that I have recently developed a set of mandala guidance cards which I now use in one-to-one sessions to help people take a snapshot of their lives, by identifying goals and obstacles in different areas, seeing the overall pattern and gaining insights as to how to unravel the threads. I was thrilled to recently have the pleasure of working with a dear friend of mine, Judy Stone-Goldman, whom I met online within the context of … Continue reading
I had been planning to announce these results last week, but life was in full swing and somehow I just didn’t get round to it. Better late than never. And everything is always in perfect timing anyway. I first of all want to say a big thank you to everyone who sent me their artwork and it’s such a pity that I can’t just let everyone win. I’ve decided to run things a bit differently from now on. This means … Continue reading
Our latest mandala competition is up and running now. This is the template you will need to take part. And what do you need to do? Simply download the mandala template and copy it over onto a piece of silk. The rest is up to you. You can paint in with either paints or dyes.
