Silk Painting Challenge – Create an Original ‘Mantangle’ on Silk

I love a good challenge and even more, I love to create a challenge and invite others to join in. And that’s exactly what this post is all about.

We are going to be creating an image inspired by the zentangle. This is an artform that is slow and meditative and consists of drawing a design using lines – straight, curved, wavy, zig-zag, and allowing them to organically come together to form a cohesive, expressive whole.

I am sharing a video here showing some examples of zentangle artwork:

I had the idea to create a mandala along these guidelines and was inspired to do so by a video I saw, by Milliande Demetriou, which is unfortunately no longer online. She drew zendalas. I decided to have a go and call my design a ‘Mantangle’. So I suggested this to some of my silk painting colleagues and challenged them to join in and paint one too. They liked the idea as well.

So taking this a step further we are making a formal challenge out of it.

By Friday 25th May, which is tomorrow in 4 weeks, you are challenged to paint a zentangle-inspired ‘Mantangle‘ on silk using whatever method you choose – that’s the new name I’ve coined for this project.

The measurements are to be 35″ x 35″ (90cm x 90cm) or as close as possible.ย  All submitted entries will be posted here in a gallery with the artist’s name and other details they would like to be shared.

I am intending to connect with all the artists and discuss some further steps so please watch this space for details.

One intention is to collect all of the pieces and create a slideshow which I will be sharing on YouTube.

In the meantime, if you would like to take part in this project, please comment below and make yourself accountable. Welcome on board. ๐Ÿ™‚

* Many thanks to Milliande Demetriou for your inspiration.

NOTE: There are only a few days left for this challenge so those of you interested in taking part in the next one, please add your details below and I will include you in the group. Thanks for your understanding and looking forward to having you on board. ๐Ÿ™‚
