Go There with Your Mind and the Body Follows

Those of you who do yoga will know that we each find some exercises easier to do than others.

This evening we were doing both spinal rolls as well as the opposite, rocking on our tummies, with our knees bent and holding onto our ankles with heads held high. Everyone started out with full energy but began to flag as the minutes tick by.

It was at that point that our kundalini yoga instructor, Mark Keane, whom you met in one of my earlier posts, urged us to just keep doing something. To imagine that we were doing the movements even if our body was not quite keeping up and only managing them partially.

And why? Because when we go through the motions in our mind’s eye, we spark off physiological responses and at some point, we discover that we can indeed do what we thought we couldn’t. Yoga is a perfect example of this.

I loved that reminder. Go there with your mind and the body/energy follows.

    what a fabulous post. Time-wise perfect! Don’t we have to be there already to get there? Isn’t that so true? And how does our mind know the difference whether it happened already or that we’re still on the way?

      I love the paradox of it all. That’s where we can really appreciate our minds as great tools. The brain noise of course is another matter altogether. 🙂

    I’ve actually noticed lately that when I’m working out, particularly running which I find difficult, that if I picture myself running on the beach pretending I’m in Navy Seals training, I actually run faster! I picked this visualization up from one of my favorite trainers at the gym. I’ve always known visualization was extremely powerful for other things, but this is the first time I’ve really put it into play for exercise. Mind over matter! Thanks for the post!
