    Hi Fiona Stolze,
    Your work is beautiful.
I came a cross you in my search for a horizontal silk steamer. I like the idea of the electric one better than the stove top version.
I would love to invest in the electric steamer you have but can’t seem to find it on the internet.
May I ask where you purchased yours?

    • Fiona Stolze says:

      Hi Cheryl

Please excuse my delayed response. I didn’t receive notification of your comment. Unfortunately my horizontal steamer is no longer in production. You can get a vertical steamer from Jacquard or Uhlig. Just Google them for details. Good luck.
      Warm wishes

    Dear Fiona
You make some lovely paintings. You also are a lovely person to share your knowledge with us beginner painters.
I have progressed with my steaming in a pot. I now use Dharmas harem cloth 2 layers
fashion fabric, l layer of pellon, fashion cloth another layer of pellon
roll up the bundle, folding over the edges and securing with mask tape
roll onto a cardboard roll (that upholstery fabric comes on)
Pull the cardboard roll out (this leaves a hole in the donut)and mask tape to secure
Wrap the roll with thin aluminum foil (ck so no holes)
Make a cap of thin aluminum foil to put over the top
place a steam rack, bottom side up, in the pot and add foil if necessary to keep the bundle out of the water. I put 1 1/4 inches of water in kettle.
Brought up to a full steam fast. placed aluminum foil over the kettle, lid and cement stone.
Dupont paints and steamed 3 hrs.
Bundle came out dry and not stains.

    Another tip
to remove wrinkles from steamed silk- place a sheet over iron board, fashion fabric, brown paper, apply 1/2 vinegar to 1/2 H2O to wet paper, Iron with linen setting (no steam) till dry and viola, no wrinkles

    Hello Fiona,
I’ve just been watching your fab YouTube videos – very informative. Can I ask where to buy the steamer and paper you use?
Also, do you have any workshops planned? I live within easy reach of Bristol and would love to find out more.
    Gill

    • Fiona Stolze says:

      Hi Gill

Unfortunately this steamer is no longer in production. I had it shipped in from German at the time together with large rolls of steaming paper. You can order vertical models from Meru but be prepared for huge shipping costs. Check out http://www.meru-seide.de. Glad you’ve been enjoying the videos.

If you’d like information about workshops, I’ll send you some details by email.

      Warm wishes

      Fiona

  4. Colleen Swenson says:

Do you have any information on how to crackle a silk batik?

    • Fiona Stolze says:

Hi Colleen – no I don’t have any articles on this at all. Basically you just paint on the wax, scrunch it up between your hands and then apply the paint or dye on top. 🙂

  5. Bitte entschuldigen sie !
Bin auf der Suche nach einer Fiona Silk die ich so zwischen 1968 und 1969 in
Mönchengladbach kennen lernen durfte. Sie war die Tochter eines englischen Offiziers
in Deutschland.

  6. Nazia says:

Hello Fiona, I love ur site and dedication…can u help me in teaching how to mix thinner and solvent based gutta to make it useable…anybody???
    Appreciate

    • Fiona Stolze says:

Hi Nazia – glad your are enjoying the site. I’m sorry though that I can’t help you out at all because I don’t work with solvents at all due to health risk.

I’m guessing there are no instructions. If I had to mix two substances together I would put them in a pot and slowly add small amounts of the thinner, stirring thoroughly, until I reached the required consistency. Hope someone turns up to share their experiences.

      Warm wishes

    • Fiona Stolze says:

So lovely to hear that Catherine. You certainly looked as though you were really immersed in the process and your finished piece was beautiful. I’ll be running another workshop on August 25th in the Wilder Studios so you are very welcome to join in then. I have posted this on my website but will add the link here. This next one is painting mandalas again. And in September I am going to be playing with soya wax doing some batik work.
