Mayan Gold on Silk Inspired by the Da Vinci Code Soundtrack

Over the years I have painted a great number of mandalas on silk and, as you can imagine, I have a huge collection of photographs taken both during the process and afterwards of the completed paintings. And it’s with great joy that I often browse through the photos, picking pictures out here and there to illustrate writings and newsletters. Well the latest trip down memory lane was yesterday when I pulled out my Da Vinci Code soundtrack CD and suddenly … Continue reading

Inspired by Green Chrysocolla to Paint Beautiful Heart Chakra Silks

A few days ago a lovely friend of mine drew a card and gave me a short reading. Amongst other things a gemstone message came through. I went off to see what I had in my little treasure box of stones and this is the piece that I found. I just had to capture it on camera. It turned out that this was a mixture of chrysocolla and malachite and not the chrysoprase that had been spoken about but I … Continue reading

Creating Silk Mandala Artwork – Painting from the Heart

I just wanted to share this lovely photograph with you of the latest 3 silk mandalas that were painted in one of my silk painting workshops here in Bristol. I couldn’t resist displaying them out in the sunshine in front of the lilac bush before taking them in to steam them and then send them off to their artist owners. The wonderful part of it all is that when they have been steamed, the colours turn really translucent and take … Continue reading

Silk Painting and Mandalas in Lincombe Barn, Bristol

Silk painting is such a joy to do and it’s even more joy when others join you in a group. And I had that pleasure at the weekend when 3 other aspiring silk painters met with me to create their own silk mandalas. We were in a venue I haven’t worked in before. Lincombe Barn is the home of the Downend Folkhouse Association, just past Bristol City limits, a few metres into South Gloucestershire. It was such a beautifully warm … Continue reading

Passionate About Silk and Art and Colour

Yesterday evening the setting sun was lighting the back wall in my bedroom up beautifully. I had hung one or two pieces of clothing against the cupboard door and noted how pretty the colours looked together. So I went up to the attic and got my camera down and started to take a few shots. These are some of the latest silks I’ve painted and I noticed what a predominance of pinks and oranges there is in my work at … Continue reading

Art for Art’s Sake…

I have always encouraged others to allow free expression of their artistic tendencies at all times. I see it as coming from somewhere deep within. Somewhere we normally don’t have access to. And to deny it’s free flow and emergence is like cutting off our life flow. Today I was sitting browsing online and saw the work of some truly amazing artists. There were some pieces which deeply touched me and I literally held my breath. It is so inspiring … Continue reading

Mandala Silk Painting Workshops in Bristol

It’s been a while since I last ran a silk painting workshop. And just recently I got that prod again to put out the call and make it happen. I have always taught people within my own home, whether Glastonbury, Malahide or Bristol. But this time I knew it was time to go out and seek a new venue. So imagine my delight when within a very short space of time I had manifested 2 different spaces to hold my … Continue reading

It’s that time again and here we are, ready to take on our next challenge. But first of all, huge gratitude to all those of you who took part in the first Mantangles silk painting challenge. I’m not going to go into all the details of how this started. Suffice to say that I documented it all in some earlier posts, and so I’d love you to go and read up and see where all of this came from. So … Continue reading

Batik Mandalas and Silk Painting – a Fabulous Combination

Well, not too long ago I decided to have a break from creating my traditional mandalas on silk using gold resist and dyes. I was open to exploring new directions and giving free flow to my creativity. I began to play with soya wax more and bought myself some tjantings and just literally got going. At the same time I was introduced to the world of fluorescent dyes which was a real delight. However, rather than let my active mind … Continue reading
