Using Introversion to Deliberately Keep Myself Separate From Life

I think it would be fair to say that I’ve been pretty introverted all of my life. It was always quite an ordeal to be introduced to people I’d never met before, and I would employ all sorts of strategies to avoid that happening. Just recently I was chatting to friends about this topic, and in the midst of the conversation I could see quite clearly that an introvert was not something that I was. It was actually a persona … Continue reading

Well I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day

How many of you are like me and still have a loving place in your heart for the old Wizzard Christmas evergreen? It’s one of those songs that really brings back lovely childhood memories of how Christmas was in the past. Especially if you lived in the UK like I did. As a youngster I couldn’t help thinking – thank goodness it’s not Christmas every day. That would be exhausting. But today on December 20th, here I am sitting quietly … Continue reading

Taking Some Time Out in Somerset

We were lucky enough to be able to take some time out recently from our daily routine and fly back over to the UK to visit our grown-up children. We rented a delightful cottage to the south of Street in Somerset – it really was a home away from home. It was lovely to lie in bed and listen to the sheep gently baaing away in the field right next door. In fact, we met many sheep on our stay … Continue reading

The Classical Seven-Course Labyrinth on Silk

I’ve been painting some more bright, silky labyrinths and wanted to share the results with you. The one in these images is the classical seven-course labyrinth, which is constructed from 7 concentric circles around the centre point. There’s an amazingly simple geometry behind this design which I may share with you in another post. It was fun to learn how to draw one free-hand although I did use a template to create these silky images. A labyrinth is not the … Continue reading

Remembering not to take it all personally

I was reminded again today not to take anything anyone else is doing personally. Not to take it on board. Not to take it to heart. Just let the other person do what they think they need to do, without me needing to go into self-defence. It really doesn’t matter if one of my kids is bad tempered. It’s absolutely fine if my partner is in a bad mood. And it’s okay if one of my work colleagues slept really … Continue reading

Speaking Only When I’ve Really Got Something to Say

I realised this morning that it’s been such a long time since I made any posts on this site. And looking back over the years I also realised that in the early days I made a point of posting regularly here so that readers always had something new to look at and enjoy. Sure there are many older posts on this site sharing hints and tips around silk painting which many have found valuable. And it’s been lovely to pass … Continue reading

Integrity of Word

It’s important to realise that everything we express, whether in words or actions or other means, takes form in reality – indelibly, like an ink stamp. So it’s really important to bring awareness to what we are saying in every moment. Words mindlessly spillt out into the ether are touching, forming, changing…everything they encounter both directly and indirectly. And it’s important to be aware of where the words are coming from. Are they spewing out of a sewage canal filled … Continue reading

Room with a View – Heart Blossoming

This is truly a room with a view. Such an amazing explosion of blossoms in such a wonderful range of colours. Hues from soft pinks, peaches, warming yellows to soft sky blues and lilacs. A wonder of nature that always surprises and delights me. I love peeping out of the window to see this extravaganza. A gift that came with this house we moved into 7 months ago. And it’s such fun to look out through the top pane to … Continue reading

The Blossoming of Newness

Spring is blossoming and I’m enjoying noticing how things are gradually changing in my life. Newness is creeping in from all corners, subtly, but definitely there. The things that are opening up for me are changing. My thoughts are becoming different. And I’m ready to step into things I was closed to before, seeing that there never was an obstacle… The challenges are still there in abundance but I really have this sea of calm within that I can rest … Continue reading

Another Beautiful Sunset – Life’s Happening While I’m at my Computer

Oh my! Just about half an hour ago I happened to look up from my computer screen and saw a beautiful sky. I leapt to my feet and grabbed the camera. This is what I saw. Sunsets are so amazing. The colours, akin to silk painting and watercolour technique, look as if someone had picked some incredible shades from their palette and spread them with a large, soft brush across the sky. I slowly went back to what I had … Continue reading
